After surviving a 10-inning, 2 hour and 45-minute marathon to stun four-time defending State Champion and top ranked Van Meter Tuesday night, the Pella Christian baseball team is set to be underdogs once again.

The Eagles enter their first State Tournament berth since 1994 as the eight-seed in the Class 2A Bracket and will face top-seeded and #3 ranked Beckman Catholic in the first round. Pella Christian embraced their role of playing spoiler, knocking of Van Meter and Central Decatur as the lower seeded team in the 2A Substate 6 semifinal and final. Eagles senior Corbin Westerkamp said that the team will be ready for whatever challenge is thrown their way.

“We’re just going to go into it knowing that, if we can beat Van Meter, we can beat anybody. We’re gonna stay humble and hungry. I said that last game and it paid off. If we just keep playing how we did, we’ll win if we keep playing like this.”

The Pella Christian baseball team begins their at the State Tournament in Carroll on Tuesday, July 18th at 11 a.m. against Beckman Catholic, and the game will be broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS.
