The Pella School Board held the second of two summer meetings Monday. The board received its monthly construction report on progress at the Early Childhood Center and its first update about the Jefferson-Middle School connector. Also on the agenda was approval of a final contract for phase I of the Early Childhood Center with Sandstone Management, the 2023-24 board meeting schedule, Marion County’s Hazard Mitigation plan, a foreign exchange student application, and to set a public hearing for the district’s Child Internet Protection Act policy review on August 14th. A work session was also held to review legislative priorities for the 2024 Legislative Session with the Iowa Association of School Boards, which this year, will include at risk and mental health issues, teacher recruitment, licensure, and professional development, supplemental state aid, and local accountability for school boards.
