At this week’s Knoxville City Council meeting, a contract was awarded for the Veterans Park trail connection project.
A bid from Howrey Construction in the amount of $376,982 was accepted for the project. This trail connection will begin near the Randy Wilson Track and continue north on Willets Drive, crossing West Pleasant by means of a safe pedestrian crossing similar to Hwy 14. The trail will continue through the new Veterans Park and east, connecting Youngs Park.
This will add another mile of trail to the system and connect several local landmarks such as the raceway, two city parks, Marion County Park, the Randy Wilson Track and more. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery mentioned that the project will be underway soon.
“That will be done yet this year, so in the upcoming months you will see that being constructed as well.”
