One thing that the Knoxville Softball Squad struggled with this summer was injuries that the coaching staff was forced to move players around the field and many were playing positions that they were not familiar with. Coach Carla Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports, for the most part the girls adjusted well, but it was a struggle some game with players in unfamiliar roles.

Smith: “Overall on the season the girls just adjusted. They knew I needed 100% from them at each position, and they eventually adjusted and got back on track.”

Emma Dunkin dealt with a wrist injury and had to play first base for several games, which moved other players around. Ashlyn Finarty had a hip injury through the last half of the season and forced her from the circle at times, plus other injuries and players not available during the season. Smith said several times that she will never get mad at a player who is giving their all and makes a mistake at an unfamiliar position. Smith resigned as softball coach following the season.
