Our #7 spot on the top 10 countdown of the best moments on Eagle Lane this past school year came from the Pella Christian boys golf team qualifying for the Class 2A State Tournament for just the second time in school history.

The Eagles, whose only other State Tournament appearance was back in 2001, took second place at the Mediapolis District meet on Monday, May 15th, with a team score of 320. Pella Christian finished as the runner-up at Wapello’s Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club behind #1 ranked and eventual State Runner-up Beckman Catholic.

Helping lead the way for Pella Christian’s first State Tournament berth in 22 years were top-ten finishes from Isaiah Breems and Deacon Branderhorst. Both Breems and Branderhorst shot a 78, finishing in seventh and eighth place respectively. Eliot Menninga recorded an 81 to finish in 13th place, while Cooper Spronk rounded out the team scoring with an 83 which was good enough for an 18th place finish. Working towards making State all season, Breems said it was satisfying to be able to accomplish that feat.

“Earlier in the season this was originally one of our goals, and it feels really good that we could accomplish it. And when we were sitting in the clubhouse after the round, we knew it would be close, which made it that much better.”

At the State Tournament on Monday and Tuesday May 22nd and 23rd at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames, Pella Christian brought home a 6th place finish and all six starters will return this coming year.
