The Pella Public Library is giving the public a chance to buy a little piece of their childhoods. Dick and Jane, Hardy Boys, and Heidi are just a few of the titles they can pick up at the library’s July 29th rare book sale.
Lorraine Verros has volunteered at the Pella Public Library since the new building opened in 2000. Her current role involves going through donated books and stocking the Book Nook, where patrons can grab a used book at a low cost. When an old or rare book was donated, she set them aside.
“I wasn’t sure what to do with them, but I knew somebody would want them,” said Lorraine. “Some are even so beautiful you can display them.”
Lorraine checked online to make sure they were reasonably priced. She said the library had tried selling old and rare books before, but the prices were too high.
“We have a couple that I think are worth more, like Pella History books which are out of print, but most are only $2 or $5.”
The Pella Public Library is hosting a book sale starting today and continuing through August 7th during regular library hours. The rare and old books will be on sale from 10am – 2pm on Saturday, July 29th during Pella’s Ridiculous Days.
Proceeds from the Book Sale will go to Friends of the Pella Public Library to help support equipment purchases, subscriptions to electronic media, Adventure Passes, and much more.
