While a run back to the final day of the season for the Pella boys tennis team capped another special season, a moment from their journey made it to #3 on the countdown of stories from the land of the Dutch. Despite a remarkable run of top finishes for the better part of a decade, a championship trophy remained elusive. That was, until May 24th. Jack Briggs and Joshua Roozeboom dominated the field in the Class 1A doubles tournament held in Waterloo — only dropping three sets over the two day tournament, to claim the first individual state championship for the program. Briggs and Roozeboom are part of a deep family legacy in the tennis programs at Pella High, with several state qualifying siblings — and Briggs earned runner up in the same tournament in 2022 with older brother Caleb. The duo was a key part of the team’s overall run to the finals, where they fell to Cedar Rapids Xavier for the fourth consecutive season.
