We revisit the track and field season for the Knoxville High School #2 sports story of the school year. It was a successful State Meet for the Knoxville boys and girls squads as the Panthers had several podium finishes plus set numerous personal and school records. For the girls, Ciara Heffron had the best finish with a 2nd place in the discus with a throw of 135-9 inches. Melanie Sullivan podiumsed twice with an 8th in the 400 breaking the school record in that event in a time of :59.54, plus she placed 5th in the long jump. Ashlyn Finarty was 4th in the shot put after a record setting season that saw her and Heffron also qualify for the Drake Relays. All three commented on their state meet experience to KNIA/KRLS.
Finarty: It’s really an honor, it’s been my goal for the year and placing at state.”
Heffron: It was a little nerve racking placing 8th and I knew I could do better and I did better, so it’s really great.
Sullivan: “I really didn’t know what to expect in the 400. I’m really proud of myself for breaking the school record, I really don’t have any words other than it’s a really great way to go out.”
For the boys, some of the highlights were, Koby Higginbotham placed 10th in the 110 high hurdles in a time of :15.06, and the boys 4×400 team of Austin Washington, Higginbotham, Kaden McGill, and T-J DeJong placed 10th in a time of 3:26.81.
