The Pella City Council discussed the process of updating the city’s comprehensive plan and zoning code at their meeting this week. The document guiding decisions for council as it relates to development and rezoning was last updated in 2014, and the city’s zoning code had a major update in the 1980s with some modifications made almost annually since. The city needs to first hire a consultant, which would then allow the following process to take place:
– Formation of a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) consisting of City Council members, P&Z Commission members, other Board/Committee members, and citizens
– The TAC will work with the consultant and staff to create the updated document
– The TAC will recommend the final product to the P&Z Commission and City Council for approval
– The tentative timeline for Council adoption of a new Comprehensive Plan is Dec. 2024
One the plan is adopted, the council would then explore a rewrite of zoning codes.
