Knoxville Hospital and Clinics wants to make sure students are getting their Well Child Exams for the upcoming school year.
This exam is a more comprehensive exam than a traditional sports physical. It also is a new requirement in the state of Iowa for anyone who is going to participate in school athletics.
However, the well child exam is something that is recommended for every child going into a new school year.
Dr. Jared Rietveld says this is a way to maximize every child’s overall care.
“I think a big part of the change is we don’t want to have just a limited exam where we could do a sports physical but miss a lot of other aspects of life. We want more comprehensive care for every kid to benefit every kid as best as we can. Increasing the scope of that visit from just a sports physical to a complete well child exam can help us accomplish that.”
