Three Central College players were named All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
It’s the most honorees for the Dutch men’s golf squad since three players were also cited in 2007. Lucas Wendel was honored for the second time. Also cited were Cole McGriff and Jacob Moffett.
To be eligible for selection, an NCAA Division III player must be a sophomore, junior or senior, participate in at least half of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 79.0 and a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
There were 199 players from 75 Division III schools cited.
Wendel graduated with a 3.84 GPA with a biology major. He is a three-time American Rivers Academic All-Conference honoree and was a two-year co-captain. He received Central’s Golden Putter Award as the team’s most improved player for 2021-22 and the Wagner Award for leadership and inspiration this past season. Wendel earned all-conference distinction in 2022. He had a 77.7 competitive stroke average for the year.
McGriff has a 3.89 GPA with majors in psychology and philosophy. He’s a two-time varsity letterwinner and received the Golden Putter Award as the team’s most improved player this past season. He posted a 77.6 stroke average.
Moffett carries a 3.24 GPA with a finance major. He’s a three-time letterwinner and recorded a 77.4 stroke average this year.
