The Indianola City Council discussed a new process for reviewing council-nominated positions on various city boards and commissions at the work session of their most recent meeting, which could include a closed session application review. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News any decision made by the council will be in public session, but the council also wants to make it less daunting to apply to serve the city and have an application discussed with the public.

“When we have multiple candidates put in for a board position, it’s a little bit more challenging because any time the council gathers it has to be in an open, public meeting. Therefore we are starting to talk about the character and competency of various individuals, and we want to do that with dignity and treat all of those who want to volunteer their time with respect. So the council is just trying to wrap their arms around the best way to move forward, to ensure transparency but also ensure dignity. So we are refining that process and will be doing so in our next meeting going forward as well.”
