A Des Moines man was arrested Wednesday in Marion County for attempting to disarm a police officer.

According to court records, just after 7:00 am on Wednesday a man identified as Andrew Cogley was walking on Highway 14 close to Monroe. An officer came into contact with Cogley because of knowledge of warrants for his arrest.

Cogley refused to cooperate and allegedly attempted to run away. As the officer was trying to detain Cogley, items became dislodged from his duty belt. Cogley then attempted to take a taser from the officer. After a struggle, the officer regained possession of the taser and deployed it due to Cogley still being uncooperative and attempting to get away.

Cogley is charged with attempting to disarm a peace officer, which is a class D felony. He is also being charged with possession of a controlled substance and interference with official acts causing bodily injury.

Cogley was transported to the Marion County Jail and will eventually be transported to Jasper County Jail due to active warrants in the county.
