The Indianola City Council approved a pair of nominations to city boards and commissions at their meeting Monday, while delaying another pair of nominations until September. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the delay was not about the people nominated to the positions, but rather the difference between a nomination from Mayor Stephanie Erickson, and a council-nominated candidate.
“So there are mayor’s appointments where the mayor gets to choose with the consent of council, those are easy. We can move forward with those, the mayor made her choices and they were approved. However with the council choices they wanted to make sure the process was re-done, and ensure transparency, before moving forward with any candidates. So we held off, there was no urgency in filling those roles, we wanted to get the process right and then have everyone go through that process in an open and transparent manner.”
