A new head coach is aiming to get the Pella volleyball program back to the top of the Little Hawkeye Conference and among Class 4A’s best as she starts her tenure. Sam Sheldon was an assistant at Ankeny for the past five years, which included five conference titles and the 2020 5A championship for the Hawks, and in her first head coaching venture, she wants to develop a talented group and get them to the next step.

The good news for Sheldon is that the team has had a nice run of on-the-court success recently, winning 67% of their games in the past three years. But, those wins have not translated into deep postseason runs, with a 3-3 record in the playoffs during that time.

Key returners:
Katie Scheckel, Sophomore – 644 assists, 44 kills (.270 efficiency), 28 blocks, 195 digs, 54 service aces
Bryn Higginbotham, Senior – 95 kills (.217 efficiency), 34 blocks, 96.4% service percentage
Kyli Hiemstra, Senior – 233 digs, 21 service aces
