The greatest two weeks in sprint car racing concluded Saturday night with Kyle Larson winning the 62nd running of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals.
As a part of Saturday’s festivities, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and Republican Presidential Candidate and current Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke during the opening ceremony. Following the National Anthem, four members of the Des Moines Skydiver’s parachuted on to the front stretch of the Knoxville Raceway in front of a sold out crowd. Now a time-time winner of the event, Larson said that the staff of the Knoxville Raceway helps make this event one of his favorites.
“The staff here in Knoxville, they do as good a job if not better than a lot of the events I get to compete in as far as just building the overall atmosphere. They’ve really, you know, invested a lot of money into this facility and it’s paid off and they can be overall. A great experience for not only the fans but us competitors, too.”
Knoxville Raceway General Manager Jason Reed said that he was pleased with how his first Nationals in this new role went.
“Everything went really well. We had lots of fans. 410 nationals every night we were up with the attendance, sold out on Saturday in the grandstands, all the suite tickets and even though sold out pit passes, I mean, we just had to finally just shut it off so we just can’t have any more people in here. So yeah, it’s always incredibly awesome.”
