The Knoxville School Board adopted the hazard mitigation plan at their meeting on Monday night.

This is something that is renewed every five years. The city council also recently renewed this as well and it lays out what the school board would do in case of a hazardous emergency situation.

KCSD Superintendent Cassie Pearson says adopting this is also a way to become eligible for federal funding in disaster situations.

“That allows us to actually be eligible for some federal funding when it becomes available for mitigation efforts such as creating storm shelters or other projects, and so we always participate and the board approves it so that gives us future potential then for future funding.”
