Marion County has provided an update on a sinkhole located south of Knoxville.

After investigation, it has been determined that the sinkhole located at 135th Pl was a result of limestone mining in the area. Bruening Rock Products Inc., who mines limestone directly adjacent to the sinkhole, has submitted a plan to Marion County for repairs.

Marion County has approved Bruening’s proposal, and work has started on it this week. The project is expected to take several weeks to complete.
