Last fall, Pella Christian football had one of the most explosive offenses in all of Class 1A, highlighted by a dominant rushing attack.

The Eagles finished last season ranked third among 1A teams in rushing yards with 3,201 and in rushing touchdowns with 49. Pella Christian also threw for over 1,000 yards last year, but graduated quarterback Isaac Kacmarynski and both starting wide receivers Peyton Ritzert and Jack Fancher.

While the Eagles’ backfield will once again be a strength for the team, they will be running behind an entirely new offensive line. Pella Christian head coach Rich Kacmarynski says that they working to get their new linemen ready for next week’s season opener.

“We are in a process of rebuilding. We’ve got some really good candidates there. So, I think over time, we’re going to be very good there.”

Kacmarynski added that while the Eagles may rely on the running game early in the season, he is hoping to be well balanced offensively as the season progresses.

“The strength of our offense right now is our backfield. However, I came away from our scrimmage this past Saturday very pleased with my receiver play. I think all said and done, our offense might start a little bit more run heavy this year, but I think over time our passing game will grow and develop and we’ll be a very balanced team again.”

The Eagles kick-off the 2023 season at 7 p.m. next Friday night at Des Moines Christian, and the game can be heard on 92.1 KRLS.
