relay

The Knoxville Cancer Relay will kick off on September 14th this year.

This will be the 10-year anniversary of the event and the team will be running their farthest distance in its history. They are going to be running the entire state of Iowa from east to west and west to east.

The two teams starting at each side of the state will meet in Knoxville on the evening of Friday, September 15th to deliver the football at Ken Locke Stadium before the start of the Panthers game.

This team of runners has raised over $200,000 in the last nine years to support cancer research and treatments, and has a goal of $50,000 this year. The community can get involved in many ways for this event including supporting runners, dedicating signs, sponsoring the team, and running hourly loops through Knoxville.

Event Organizer and runner Pat Finan says this event is  important to him, as he has fought his own cancer battle.

“It means so much to me to be able to not only run for myself but run for friends and loved ones and teachers and people that I know whether they’re in my heart or maybe out on the course cheering me on either way so it’s really a great coming together. It’s a great celebration. It’s a great way to use your gifts for a great cause.”
