The Knoxville Police Department wants to remind the community of school bus safety as students head back to school this week.
Buses will once again be traveling frequently throughout the community in the morning and afternoon hours every weekday. It is important that community members are following all laws and regulations when it comes to giving these buses the space they need.
Never pass a school bus when lights are flashing and when the stop sign is out. It is also important to be prepared for the bus to make frequent stops.
Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller mentioned that the fines for not abiding by these laws can be large.
“We want to do everything we can to just give them the space that they need. They are going to be making frequent stops. Anytime that the stop arm is out then people are expected to stop, and if you don’t the citation is pretty hefty.”
