In a Class 4A matchup of top 10 foes, the Norwalk volleyball team will open the season tonight with a non-conference game at Bondurant-Farrar. The Warriors are ranked fifth in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s preseason ratings while the Bluejays are 10th. The varsity match is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.

Both teams finished with an overall record of 24-11 last season, but Norwalk won all five sets during two head-to-head games. The Warriors prevailed in last year’s opener, 25-17, 25-13, 25-11, and went on to win a share of the Little Hawkeye Conference title. The Bluejays placed third in the Raccoon River Conference. Both squads return the majority of last season’s varsity roster.

Cross Country Opener Canceled

The Norwalk boys and girls cross country teams will have to wait for their season opener after today’s meet at DMACC was canceled a day in advance due to excessive heat and humidity. The Warrior harriers are set to run in the Ames Invitational on Monday, August 28, at the Iowa State University Cross Country Course.
