The City of Knoxville heat activation plan has been extended through Thursday due to continued high heat indexes.

The city has two cooling shelters open in town,  including the Knoxville Public Library and the Knoxville Rec Center. Those two cooling shelters will be open during normal business hours.

The Knoxville Fire Department is monitoring the weather forecast to see if the heat activation plan needs to be extended through Friday as well.
