Several local residents have had success at the state fair level.

The Iowa State Fair, which is the biggest annual event in the state, wrapped up Sunday. It is the grand stage for people of all ages to showcase their skills and exhibits in the state of Iowa. 

Marissa Sharp of Knoxville won first place in the 17 and older division for the cow chip throwing contest. Brooklynn Sedlock of Indianola got first place for the drop cookies contest in the 13-17 age group.

Lauren Peterson of Knoxville got second place in an appetizers competition along with second place in a noodle dish competition, and Amy Fuson of Indianola received an honorable mention for the appetizer contest. Nora Peterson of Knoxville got second place in a school sack lunch competition. 

Jansen Petersen of Knoxville finished third in the best fruit pie competition. Adela McNeely of Knoxville finished second in the 5-16 year old division in the piano playing contest.

The Knoxville FFA won 8th place as a chapter for FFA Market Meat Goat.
