The Twin Cedars Cross Country Program will move on without arguably the Sabers greatest ever athlete after losing Rylee Dunkin to graduation last year. The Sabers also have a new coach, who is not new to Twin Cedars sports, as Mark Bacus, who was head girls basketball coach a few years ago, is back to head up the cross country program. While low on numbers, Bacus tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he can give each runner individual coaching, something that would be impossible with a larger group.

Bacus: “You can fine tune and get a certain workout schedule for one kid and better suited for them, and you can’t do that with a bigger group. I also think they get closer as a team and are constantly pulling for each other even in practice.”

Returning this season on the girls side is Jayden Weldon, a junior and on the boys side, returning is Noah Fee. Bacus says they both look to improve their times and be competitive at the end of the season. Twin Cedars was supposed to have had a meet today at Collins/Maxwell, but with every other meet this week, due to the boiling temperatures, the meet has been canceled. Twin Cedars is scheduled to run at Albia on Monday.
