The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report shows continued moderate conditions in south central Iowa. Most of Marion and Warren Counties are rated in the first category, while southeast Marion County remains in severe drought. The weekly update issued each Thursday cuts off on Tuesday morning, so the majority of extreme heat this week will be included in next week’s update. Little-to-no precipitation is expected well into early September, according to the National Weather Service.
