The #9 Indianola football team hosts rival Urbandale to begin their 2023 season tonight, and will feature many new names after losing a significant graduating class from 2022. The Indians are fresh off of back-to-back quarterfinal appearances in class 4A, and have the same expectations this year with multiple new leaders in key positions. Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports the key to a season opening victory will be simple, don’t turn the ball over, and don’t let the J-Hawks score easily.
“Eliminate the big play. We are going to make mistakes. They are going to get yards, they have good players just like we have good players. But can we limit those big explosive plays, contain them, and limit their scoring. So as always I will always say special teams. If there is a phase of the game that probably gets left out
The game will be broadcast live on 94.3 KNIA in addition to the Indianola Activities YouTube stream, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30pm, with kickoff at 7.
The #2 Indianola volleyball team swept their opponents in a quad at Southeast Polk on Thursday, defeating the host Rams 2-0 (25-20, 25-13), and #5 Norwalk 2-1 (18-25, 25-17, 15-12) in a non-conference matchup, in addition to defeating Des Moines Lincoln 2-0 (25-3, 25-5). The Indians improve to 4-0 on the season, and will continue their early season gauntlet in a 16-team tournament tomorrow at Bondurant-Farrar. Action starts at 8am.
