The City of Indianola took over the former Indianola YMCA in late July, renaming the facility the Indianola Wellness Campus and retaining the majority of staff and programs the facility provided. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the reception from the community who use the facility, and some new members, has been positive and overwhelming in their support. Reeves said membership is at a sustainable level, and he hopes it will continue to grow.

“Peak number of members after COVID-19 was around 1,800, and that is usually in the January timeframe and then it dips down in the summer months. We’ve already transitioned 1,450, and more coming every day, into the new facility. That is pretty close in line of where we would normally be. We expected a little bit of a dip before reaching the higher plateau, and we were trying to prepare for a buffer where we might have to cover revenues for a short amount of time. So far the community has been supportive, we appreciate all of them, and we invite all of those who haven’t become members yet to come on out.”
