The Knoxville heat activation plan has been extended through today due to continued high heat indexes. 

The city has two cooling shelters open in town, including the Knoxville Public Library and the Knoxville Rec Center. Those two cooling shelters will be open during normal business hours.

Extreme heat and humidity can significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for the elderly, those working, and/or participating in outdoor activities.
