A season that started with a month of rain outs, has now come to its final sprint car race of 2023 at the Knoxville Raceway. Tonight three season champions will be crowned after a season-long points battle where all three Austin McCarl in the 410s, Chase Randall in the 360s, and Kade Higday in the Pro Sprintds essentially just need to show up and they clinch their respective points titles. Something that McCarl tells KNIA/KRLS Sports is a huge relief to him.
McCarl: “That takes a lot of pressure off us too. You’re rolling around there and trying to figure how many points he gained, if it’s ten or did I gain 5-10 on him, we’re not playing that game this week.”
Chase Randall is virtually in the same situation as McCarl and Randall, who has three wins this season and has yet to finish off of the podium in any weekly show, says he gained confidence from last season’s 3rd place finish in the 360s.
Randall: “Everything we learned carried over to this year, and we’ve been on our A-game this season and it’s been really fun to race good each week and we’ve had a lot of success here.”
Depending on how many Pro Sprints cars show up depends on when Higday actually clinches. But by time trials, he should be all but clinched at least. Higday tells KNIA/KRLS Sports after struggling to stay competitive due to lack of funds or back luck, this season everything finally fell into place for him, including his car which is considered old reliable.
Higday: “We’ve got the same car we’ve always ran on our 305 deal, that 2000 Eagle we got from Johnny and we tried some stuff early that worked and haven’t really strayed away from it, and it’s been really good to us.”
