The Class 2A #8 Pella Christian volleyball team traveled to Bondurant-Farrar Saturday, and went 2-4 in the Skip Anderson Invitational to begin the 2023 season.
The Eagles kicked off pool play by sweeping Burlington Notre Dame 21-16, 21-17, before falling to Class 1A #15 North Tama in straight sets 13-21, 19-21. Pella Christian finished off pool play action with their second sweep, this time against Williamsburg 21-12, 21-13. Advancing to the silver bracket, the Eagles were swept in their three matches against 4A #11 North Polk (10-21, 18-21), 4A #10 Bondurant-Farrar (15-21, 18-21), and Gilbert (19-21, 19-21).
Leading Pella Christian on the day offensively were Annika Van Dyke and Chloe Huisman. Van Dyke posted 22 kills in the six matches, while Huisman had 72 assists in the tournament. Defensively, Ema Zula recorded 45 digs to lead the Eagles.
Pella Christian will now turn their attention to Little Hawkeye Conference action, as they travel to Indianola on Tuesday for their league opener at 7:15 p.m.
