The Norwalk volleyball team opened Little Hawkeye Conference play with a sweep and an individual school record on Tuesday night, defeating Oskaloosa by scores of 25-11, 25-20, 25-19. The Class 4A fifth-ranked Warriors improved to 6-5 overall and are 1-0 in the LHC.
The program also has a new school record holder for career kills in senior outside hitter Noelle Sutcliffe, who surpassed Gabby Ridgeway’s previous mark of 899 during set one. Norwalk head coach John Fulton says that Sutcliffe has been a fantastic player for the Warriors since she stepped on the varsity court as a freshman.
“The last couple of years she has really stepped up as a primary weapon for us, and it has been amazing to watch her play and grow as a leader for this program,” Fulton said. “She would also be the first to give credit to her teammates.”
Fulton added that the Warriors did a great job of serving in their home opener, keeping pressure on Oskaloosa and preventing the Indians from setting up their offense. He credited middle hitters Ava Johnson and Emmory Toppenberg for strong play at the net and slowing down Osky’s top hitters.
