Just over 19% of registered voters in Warren County participated in the special election for Warren County Auditor on Tuesday, with Democrat Kim Sheets winning over Republican David Whipple, capturing 66.5% of the vote to Whipple’s 33.4%.

Of the 7,539 votes cast in the election, 1,899 were absentee, which went overwhelmingly for Sheets, 1,514-385, and Sheets carried all but 5 of the 23 voting precincts.

Warren County voters participated in the general election in 2022 with a voter participation rate of 61.37% with 24,091 votes, and an 80.32% participation rate in the general election in 2020.

Democrat Traci Vanderlinden won the most recent election for Warren County Auditor in 2020, winning 55.48%-44.68% (16,264-13,170) over current Warren County Supervisor Mark Snell, with a total of 29,473 votes cast.

The office will have another election for a four-year term in November of 2024.
