The Pleasantville football team will host the Woodward-Granger Hawks tonight in their home opener.
The Trojans are coming off a strong 31-7 week one victory over Interstate 35. A big key to that win was the performance by running back Caleb Cook, who rushed for 280 yards and 5 touchdowns. He is currently leading all of class 1A in rushing yards and touchdowns.
Pleasantville’s defense also played well, only giving up one score and less than 200 yards of total offense. Ryder Thill was effective leading the offense in his debut as starting quarterback for the Trojans as he went 9/12 passing on the night.
Woodward-Granger is 0-1 on the season after a one point loss to Madrid last Friday, but Pleasantville Head Football Coach Mack Jorth believes his team is in for a tough matchup against the Hawks.
“I think they’re very well coached. I think they’re very aggressive. I think they’re physical. I think they do a really good job of attacking an offense from a defensive standpoint. I think on offense they have some real play makers they get the ball to. I think they have a quarterback that throws the ball real well so they’re going to provide a real tough challenge for us and we will have to see if we’re ready to rock and roll and execute well.”
Tonight’s game against Woodward-Granger starts at 7:00 pm.
