Many local communities are now experiencing severe drought, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Most of Marion and Warren Counties are now rated in the D2 category, thanks in part to a recent dry spell and extreme heat last week. State Climatologist Justin Glisan says the dry conditions will worsen in the short term, but he’s hopeful a growing El Nino climate pattern will mean more precipitation this fall. Warm, above average conditions are expected to continue this Labor Day Weekend, with few chances for rain in the forecast.
