A Kansas City man was arrested Wednesday in Pella for two felony charges after trying to cash a fraudulent check.

According to court records, on Wednesday, a man identified as Nathan Downs of Kansas City, MO, tried to cash a check at Marion County Bank in Knoxville for $4,275.32. When the bank staff questioned the check and did verification, the defendant left the bank with the check.

The defendant, along with multiple other suspects then attempted to cash the same check at Marion County Bank in Pella, where he was arrested by Pella Police. The check was verified as a counterfeit check.

Downs is being charged with Forgery and Fraudulent Practice second degree. Both are class D felonies. He is being held in the Marion County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
