Several emergency crews responded to a reported residential fire in Knoxville this morning.
The Knoxville City Fire Department responded with one engine company, one ladder company, one EMS company, and two command officers at 9:41 a.m. Engine crews made entry to find a fire in the kitchen, and conducted a search to find no one was home at the time of the fire; they did get two family pets out of the home. Crews extinguished the fire and ventilated the structure.
Fire Chief Cal Wyman says the fire started in the kitchen on the stove top. A knob to one of the burners got bumped into the on position and caused some items on the stove top to catch fire, spreading to the cabinets and other areas of the kitchen. The rest of the home had smoke and water damage. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
The Knoxville Fire Department was assisted on scene by Knoxville Police, Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, Pella Ambulance, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Emergency Management, Alliant Energy, and MidAmerican Energy.
