Competing on their home floor for the first time this fall, the Pella Christian volleyball team hosts Newton for a Little Hawkeye Conference match tonight.
The Eagles have been off since last Tuesday, when they fell to 2-5 on the season against Class 4A #2 Indianola. The Cardinals have been busy in the early season, playing in two quads, a triangular, and a conference game. In their nine matches through the first two weeks, Newton went 7-2 overall and 0-1 in the league, falling to Class 4A #14 Dallas Center-Grimes. Trying to even their conference record at 1-1 in their first home game tonight, Pella Christian head coach Erica Boer said that her squad needs to focus on playing their brand of volleyball.
“We’ve talked about protecting our home court. So, that’s kind of been a focus as when we have our first home game, we want to start out 1-0, so we can protect that home court and make people afraid to come to Pella to play us. So, just focusing on the things that we can control which is minimal errors, great defense, serving lights out, those types of things are how we’re going to win volleyball games, so that’s what we’re focusing on.”
The first volleyball match of the season on Eagle Lane tonight between Pella Christian and Newton is scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m.
