
Knoxville Volleyball Sweeps Davis County, Sets Up Match With EBF Next Week
The class 4A #10 Knoxville Volleyball Squad held serve in a 3-0 sweep of Davis County on Tuesday night 25-13, 25-17, and 25-13. The Panthers never trailed as any point in the match and the Mustangs tied it only twice in 3rd set before Knoxville closed the match on a 17-5 run. Brittany Bacorn had ten kills which puts her magic number to 1,000 at 16 and was 13/15 serving with five aces. Bacorn tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that win was needed to set up a huge ranked matchup with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont next Tuesday.
Bacorn: “I knew we needed to set ourselves up for a conference championship game I guess, and we played well. We have a lot of weapons on this team and it’s so much fun.”
Hannah Dunkin had six kills and Payton Horn had five kills. Coach Mollie Keitges says Horn’s play has been key to the team’s success this season. Knoxville is 6-3 and 2-0 in the South Central Conference and will have a showdown for 1st place in the conference with the class 2A #11 Rockets.
Knoxville Cross Country Squads 6th At Grinnell
The Knoxville Cross Country Squads ran early to avoid the heat and humidity at the Grinnell Invitational on Tuesday. Both boys and girls finished 6th as a team. On the girls side, Janae Baker was the fastest placing 28th with a time of 24:46. On the boys side, Isaac Rankin placed 10th with a time of 17:41. The Panthers are off until next Tuesday when they travel to Oskaloosa.
