The City of Knoxville has officially accepted their thriving community award at a reception Tuesday night in Cedar Rapids.
Knoxville City Manger Heather Ussery along with council members Megan Suhr and Dylan Morse were there to accept the award on behalf of the community.
The Iowa Thriving Community designation is a way to elevate best practices from communities that are going above and beyond to leverage innovative methods to attract housing opportunities for their workforce.
Dozens of Iowa communities completed an application to be designated as an Iowa Thriving Community and Knoxville, along with ten others, have been awarded the designation. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery mentioned that this award shows what hard work has been put into the community.
“To be designated as a thriving community, I think that just shows the work that so many individuals in the community have been working on for the last several years. It shows that we’re making progress.”
The designation comes with scoring points for the Federal Housing Tax Credit and Workforce Housing Tax Credit Programs and is effective through 2024. Hear more from Ussery on today’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.
