Both the Simpson men’s and women’s cross country teams placed second at the Les Duke invitational in Grinnell on Saturday. Spencer Moon took home a first place finish, winning his eighth career cross country title at Simpson, leading virtually the whole race. Moon finished in a time of 25:20.44, almost 30 seconds past second place. Lara Kallem recorded her second straight top five finish and career-best time for the women.
Freshman Kaylin Long led the Simpson College women’s golf team to a seventh place finish out of 12 teams at the Kohawk Classic, hosted by fellow American Rivers Conference member Coe College. Jack Wahman fired a 72 to tie his career-best score on day one of the Mount Mercy Invitational, as the Simpson College men’s golf team took fifth place overall.
The Simpson College women’s tennis team dropped its season opener on the road at defending conference champion Luther.
The Storm women’s volleyball team went 1-3 in Wisconsin-River Falls for a tournament over the weekend. The Storm fell to St. Benedict 3-2, River Falls 3-0, and St. Olaf 3-0, but defeated Martin Luther 3-0.
Simpson men’s soccer fell to St. Mary’s on Saturday 2-1. Eric Schmidt earned the goal for the Storm, who fall to 2-2 on the season.
The Storm women’s soccer team is 4-0 to start the year, defeating Carroll 3-1, their best start since 1999. Averi Baas scored twice for the Storm, while Hailey Kowzan found the back of the net to give Simpson a 3-0 lead.
