Indianola Football Faces Off with Carlisle

The Indianola football team looks to pick up a victory to end non-district play as they travel to Carlisle to renew the Warren County rivalry. The Indians came up short last year against Carlisle in district play, with the Wildcats making a run to the final four and playing at the UNI Dome, and were unable to stop the powerful option rushing attack. The Wildcats put up nearly 400 yards on the ground last year, but this year the Indians have excelled against the ground game, giving up just 60 total rushing yards through the first three games. Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports its coaching cliche to say so, but the things Indianola can control are going to win them the game.

“We’ve got to continue to execute offensively and score touchdowns, and then eliminate the big plays. Defensively, we have to get off the field otherwise Carlisle will continue to eat up the clock. As always, special teams are going to be critical. That was an area I didn’t feel we were very strong in a week ago.”

The game will be broadcast live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30pm, with kickoff at 7:30pm.

Indianola Boys Golf and Girls Swimming in Action Thursday

The Indianola boys golf team placed 6th at Marshalltown Thursday, shooting a team score of 329. Gio Richardson lead the team with a 77 to place 10th, Graham Hilton carded a 78 to finish in 11th, Ryker Burgin shot an 86, and Tyler Santi had an 88. The Indians next hit the links on Monday at their home meet at the Indianola Golf and Country Club in the Steve Spray Invitational.

The Indianola girls swimming team fell to #1 Dowling Catholic Thursday on the road 108-61. The Indians don’t have much turnaround time, competing in a meet at Marshalltown tomorrow.
