Just two days after both teams took fourth place at Oskaloosa, both ranked Pella Christian cross country squads won the team titles at Lynnville-Sully Thursday. The Eagles volleyball team was also back in action on Thursday going 2-2 at the Des Moines Christian quadrangular.
Leading the 15th ranked Pella Christian girls cross country squad to the meet victory was Bailey Vos. The sophomore completed the course in 21:03.2, claiming the individual title. Jaclyn Holmes (21:49) also finished in the top five, placing third. The Class 2A #11 ranked Eagle boys dominated the leaderboard, putting five runners in the top ten. #28 individually ranked Sawyer Meinders led the way in second place with a time of 17:44.3. Deacon Branderhorst (18:01.5) brought home fifth place in the meet, while Paxton Bouma (18:27.6) and Tysen DeVries (18:38.2) took seventh and eighth place respectively. At the Des Moines Christian quad, the Eagles volleyball team picked up 2-0 sweeps over Newton (21-8, 21-13) and Southeast Warren (21-17, 21-16). Pella Christian’s two loss on the night came to Class 4A #14 Knoxville (21-16, 21-19), and Class 3A #3 Des Moines Christian (21-9, 21-16). Addison Bandstra posted a team-high 15 kills, Claire Westerkamp and Maggie Heinen had 6 block assists, and Faith Kacmarynski recorded 28 digs on the night. After splitting their four matches Thursday, the Eagles now sit at 5-9 on the season.
The Pella Christian volleyball team gets tonight off before competing in the North Mahaska Invitational on Saturday at 9 a.m. Meanwhile, the Eagles cross country teams return to action on Monday, competing at the PCM Invite at Gateway Recreation Golf Course in Monroe.
