indianola-8

The Indianola football team could not get off the field against Carlisle Friday night on the road, running just 12 plays the entire second half and falling 16-7. The Indians turned the ball over as they marched into Carlisle territory in the first quarter and were unable to recover as the Wildcats marched down the field for the only score of the first half as Carlisle went into the break leading 7-0. Indianola barely had the ball the entire second half, as Carlisle scored a touchdown to go up 14-0 in the third, but the Indians would answer on an Andrew DeWall to Vinnie Anderson touchdown throw of 24-yards to keep them in it. The Wildcats then drove down the field for the rest of the quarter and well into the fourth, converting on multiple third and fourth down conversions and kicked a game-sealing field goal.

Indians head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports the turnover in the first quarter hurt them badly, and Carlisle was just the more physical team as the Indians couldn’t get their run game going.

“We are moving it up and down the field running the football, but then momentum switched and we never got it back. We like our run game, but when the other team is more physical and dominates you at the line of scrimmage, then it’s usually not a positive result.”

Indianola falls to 2-2 and hosts Ballard for homecoming on Friday.
