Youth deer hunting season in the state of Iowa will kick off today.
Iowa is well known for some of the best deer hunting in the nation and another season is quickly approaching. Deer hunting is split up into many different seasons all the way through January, with youth season being the first.
In 2023, the youth deer season will last from September 16th-October 1st. A certified hunter safety course and a hunting license is required to be able to hunt deer in the state. You are allowed to be out ½ hour before sunrise and ½ hour after sunset. All hunters are required to report their deer harvest at iowadnr.gov or by calling the number on their tag.
Local DNR Officer Eric Hoffman mentioned that youth in Marion County should give hunting a try because we have some of the best resources in the state of Iowa.
“We’re extremely fortunate in our backyard to have in my opinion some of the best resources in the state of Iowa as far as fishing and then hunting. If you live around Knoxville, Pella, Pleasantville or just Marion County you have some amazing resource opportunities right out your back door.”
Today is also the start of disabled hunters season.
