Bytnar Posts Career Best for Central Women’s Golfers

Central College got a career-best 75 from Peyton Bytnar but couldn’t make up any ground at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic women’s golf tourney Sunday.

Competing on the par-72 Ironwood Golf Course near her home in Bloomington, Mackenzie Biggs rolled in three birdies in shooting a 38-39—77 and was Central’s top finisher, tying for 17th with 76-77—153. Bytnar tied for 35th at 81-75—156. Lydia Grond shot 77-81—158 while Avery Woods had 83-83–166 and Rachel Sohn had 84-84–168. Central placed 12th in the 19-team tourney at 316-316—632. Dutch at-large entrant Parker Stout had 86-89—175, Jaden Smith shot 85-91–176 and Mickey Martens shot 88-94—182.

Central makes its first appearance in the Midwest Region Fall Classic Friday and Saturday at the Brighton Dale Golf Links at Kansasville, Wisconsin. Last year’s field included 24 times, primarily NCAA Division III teams from Wisconsin and Illinois, but has expanded to more than 35 teams, Schumacher said. That necessitates a double-shotgun start, with the Dutch playing in the second wave Friday at 1 p.m. and the first wave Saturday at 9 a.m.

Central Opens in 4th at Wisconsin Men’s Golf Tourney

Harold Dobernecker is making subpar his standard for the Central College men’s golf team.

Dobernecker has gone under par in his first six rounds of the fall season, extending his sizzling streak with a 1-under 70 at the par-71 Eau Claire Golf and Country Club Sunday in the opening round of the 36-hole Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational. Dobernecker, who took medalist honors at the Carthage (Wis.) Fall Invitational last Monday and Tuesday, stands fourth individually. He tied for fourth in the same tourney a year ago. Central is fourth in the 18-team field at 305. Jacob Moffett had three birdies but closed both nines with double bogeys to shoot 77. Cole McGriff and Blake Wynn each shot 79 and John Oltman had 88. Playing as an at-large entrant, Kayden Pendergrass shot 83.

The Dutch will try to improve their team standing in Monday’s round, which starts at 10 a.m.
