The Marion County Road Department is preparing for winter weather despite temperatures still climbing above 80 degrees.

Marion County is still seeing summer like weather as we head into the middle of September but the county road department knows snow is coming. The department has taken all of their shipments of salt, has their salt storage sheds full, and is working on doing final tests of all their equipment. Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian says that it is important for his department to be ready shortly.

“We want to be ready by mid October because we have to plow snow in late October sometimes. We want to get that equipment out to test the hydraulics, replace any hoses and fittings on the plows and spreaders, check lights, that sort of thing. We will start ramping that part of it up.”

The first snowfall of the season for Marion County last year was on November 12th.
