The deadline for candidates to file for their respective city school elections is on Thursday.
The filing officer for city candidates is Marion County Auditor Jake Grandia, while school secretaries are the filing clerks for school candidates. Grandia says those running for city school elections must turn in their paperwork by 5 p.m. on Thursday.
“Anyone who is interested in a certain position, they need to fill out some paperwork first. So, it is a nomination paper requiring signatures. Those forms are available through the Secretary of State or our office. And then once they have that, they also need what’s called an affidavit of candidacy. That document will need to be notarized. We are notaries here, but also that can be done elsewhere. All that paperwork needs to be turned in together by the candidate or a courier, as long as it’s notarized in the appropriate timeline.”
The 2023 elections are set to take place on Tuesday, November 7th.
