The Indianola City Council gave direction to city staff regarding changes to the South K Street Paving Project after a work session Monday evening. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the original plan for the project included a grading of the road and complete storm sewer and curb and gutter work, but after feedback from the public in the area regarding a special assessment that would go along with that plan, the council wanted to scale back the project.
“It’ll be a 24-foot traversable surface, 12-foot lanes within an additional five feet on either side for a shoulder and allow pedestrians and bikes a place to walk. We are going to be utilizing the existing topography, we are going to make sure it has a really good sub-base, and asphalt instead of concrete. It will have a 10 to 15 year useful life instead of a 30-year, but at half the cost overall.”
