Local unemployment rates rose in the month of August, according to the latest update from the Iowa Workforce Development.
The unemployment rate in Marion County increased from 2.2% in July to 2.6% last month. There are 19,330 residents employed and 510 seeking work and receiving benefits.
The rate also slightly increased in Warren County, going from 2.6% in July to 2.8% in August. There are 29,000 employed and 800 people seeking work and receiving benefits.
Statewide, Iowa’s unemployment rate rose from 3.1% to 3.3% in August, and that number is up from 2.9% at this time last year.
